Position Summary

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Health and Safety Trainer/Field Lead, in collaboration with their counterpart, will organize and facilitate non-legislated, low and medium risk in‑class and hands‑on training required by the Corporation. The individual will provide additional support to the Corporation with various health and safety initiatives, field visits and audits, provide health and safety coaching to management, assist with industry‑specific program development and provide hands‑on support to various departments.

The individual will act as a health and safety resource on various Joint Health and Safety Committees throughout the Corporation.

Duties
  • Develop and implement corporate training sessions;
  • Deliver accredited and corporate, low and medium risk in‑class and hands‑on training;
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure proper completion of departmental health and safety related initiatives;
  • Provide in‑field coaching to management and staff on hazard recognition, hazard controls, task‑specific safety;
  • Audit various workplaces and conduct unplanned inspections of the premises and job sites for health and safety compliance;
  • Lead injury and incident investigations as required, including critical incidents;
  • Research emerging safety trends and their success rates;
  • Stay current in legislation and technical safety information;
  • Promote and reinforce superior safety culture initiatives throughout the Corporation to ensure work is being completed in a safe manner while adhering to ministry standards;
  • Assist in designing strategies to reduce potential hazards within the Corporation;
  • Oversee various Joint Health and Safety Committees which includes facilitating meetings, preparing packages, providing statistical reports, ensuring workplace inspections are compliant, and training new members;
  • Represent the Corporation on various committees, as required;
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects and Health and Safety Excellence Program;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 2-year College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field;
  • CRSP designation considered an asset;
  • Train the Trainer certification required;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in developing and facilitating adult learning courses, field experience with hazardous tasks, and policy development/report writing;
  • Thorough knowledge of legislation including OHSA, Canada Labour Code, Ministry of Health & Long‑Term Care Act, etc;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Experience working construction or industrial environment required;
  • Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
  • Current and Clear Criminal Record with Judicial Matters Check required.
