Position Summary: To assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and according to the policies and procedures of Timmins and District Hospital. To provide nursing care to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment and the safe administration of simple and complex chemotherapy agents, Immunotherapy and blood products.
Position ResponsibilitiesPosition Responsibilities:
- Knowledge and ability to provide family centered care within a client focus setting.
- Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and clinical leadership skills.
- Must be well organized and able to deal effectively with the stress of an active unit.
- Must collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Must be committed to professional development by:
- A current annual written learning plan and portfolio
- Membership in at least one Oncology related professional organization.
- Monitoring of continuing education opportunities (i.e. seminars, workshops, rounds), presentation to in-service groups re: chemotherapy, articles reviewed, videotapes, audio tapes and summarizing yearly the number of hours of continuing on-going education.
- Must be aware of possible health risks of working with anti-neoplastic and agree to carry out the necessary safeguarding practices to minimize risks to his/her daily nursing practice.
- Must be experienced in electronic documentation within Meditech Client Service OE and Mosaiq.
Position Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of a diploma or baccalaureate (B.Sc.N.) nursing program and possess a current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in oncology nursing in active clinical care setting would be an asset
- Current certification in BCLS, peripheral IV initiation and maintenance and vascular access devices.
- Must be able to understand and apply the nursing principles and interventions associated with chemotherapy and complex medication administration.
- CVAA certification and de Souza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course or commitment to complete within 1 year.
- Successful completion of Oncology Nursing Certificate program will be considered an asset.
- Employment history must demonstrate regular attendance at work.
- Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
- All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
- Starting salary of $39.07/hour; $76,186.50/year (As per Step 1 of the ONA collective agreement.)
- Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
- Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
