Company Description
The Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) collects, shares, and uses geoscience data and information to benefit various stakeholders across Ontario. They are responsible for managing and providing public access to data on Ontario’s geology, which includes maps, reports, and digital resources. By conducting field investigations, the OGS works to understand geological processes and natural resources. This valuable data supports mineral investment and provincial decision-making regarding land use, environmental management, climate change, and public safety.
Role DescriptionThis internship opportunity is an on-site role located in Timmins, ON. The Summer Student role will involve supporting geological fieldwork, data collection, and analysis. Responsibilities include assisting with mapping, organizing and processing geoscience data, and contributing to the development of reports and records. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with professionals in the field and learn about Ontario’s geological resources and practices.
Qualifications- Basic knowledge of geology and earth sciences; currently enrolled in a related post‑secondary program is an asset
- Experience with data collection, data analysis, and map creation
- Familiarity with digital tools and software used in geoscience, such as GIS and data visualization programs
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to work in on‑site field environments and travel as required
- Keen interest in geology, environmental science, or a related field
