The New Hampshire Veterans Home has a full-time, 1st shift vacancy for a Program Specialist Scheduler. Proposed schedule includes: 7:30am - 4:00pm (Monday - Friday). Must be flexible for potential weekend coverage (additional $2.00/hour).

SummaryOversees and manages the scheduling of all staff resources within the nursing department under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing, to maintain appropriate scheduling of nursing professionals while ensuring the required allocation of licensed staff are on site to provide direct care for the geriatric resident population in a long-term care facility.
Your Experience CountsEach additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Minimum QualificationsEducation/Experience: Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in the fields of public health, health sciences, medical, or related field.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license and/or have access to transportation for use in statewide travel.
Other Requirements: Required to work every other weekend. May be required to work Holidays, if need arises. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency and appointing authority.

Preferred QualificationsProficiency in PC applications and Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word. Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to think independently and demonstrate good problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with a variety of individuals in a positive manner.

ResponsibilitiesOversees the NHVH scheduling program and ensures efficient allocation of staff resources to maintain compliance with regulations from the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, Department of Veteran Affairs, and State of New Hampshire personnel rules. Supervises a subordinate staff member in the daily operations of nursing scheduling. Develops, maintains, and monitors staff schedules, considering factors of availability, unit acuity and facility need while addressing scheduling conflicts promptly and efficiently.
Builds and manages daily staffing schedules for full time, part time, and travel/agency staff. Maintains communication with scheduling staff, resource staff, and nurse managers, and provides recommendations regarding requested leave use for the nursing department while maintaining efficient staffing. Provides in-depth analysis of staffing to Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing. Conducts operational training for subordinate and Licensed Nursing Assistant scheduling coordinators.
Coordinates scheduling with new nursing hires and maintains the data management of nursing department staff. Assists in the development of operational policies and procedures related to staffing and scheduling. Recommends policy or procedural changes or alternate work methods to improve the flow of work. Prepares and maintains the Nursing Staff Profile for the annual Veteran’s Administration survey.
