Are you ready to take on one of the most exciting engineering challenges in the UK water sector?
We’re looking for a Senior Technical Assurance Engineer to join our Major Projects team, where you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering some of the most technically complex and high‑profile projects in the UK’s largest potable water and wastewater treatment investment programmes.
With project values ranging from £30 million to over £200 million and covering the full delivery lifecycle from feasibility to asset takeover, this is your opportunity to make a real and lasting impact—on our customers, our environment, and the future of water and wastewater infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing as a Senior Technical Assurance Engineer- Lead technical assurance across capital projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality.
- Contribute your skills and experience to positively shaping solutions that holistically balance innovation, value for money, risks, resilience and safety.
- Collaborate with contractors and consultants to ensure compliance with our technical, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure solutions meet the Project Brief, address stakeholder needs and deliver best whole life cost—buildable, operable and maintainable solutions.
- Ensure consultants and contractors fulfil their CDM role such as Principal Designer, Designer and Principal Contractor duties.
- Provide the necessary Health and Safety information to the supply chain in accordance with CDM Regulations.
- Support the Project Manager to achieve governance on solution endorsement from internal stakeholders such as Engineering, Operations and Sponsor.
- Take on the lead to ensure all technical queries are responded to time.
- Assure contractors and consultants provide the necessary evidence to demonstrate compliance with technical and construction requirements.
- Carry out technical audits / assessments (pre, during and post‑construction) to ensure Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality issues are appropriately addressed on your projects.
- Ensure change is managed effectively to minimise cost and programme impacts and mitigate the risks to compliance, performance, health, safety, wellbeing or the environment.
- You will proactively protect and enhance Thames Water’s reputation with external customers and stakeholders.
- Enjoy an environment that encourages continuous improvement, customer‑focussed and collaborative culture across a range of technical and commercial disciplines, internal business functions, and with the supply community amongst a diverse range of external stakeholders.
- Hold a degree in civil/mechanical/process engineering or possess equivalent experience in a relevant role within the water or wastewater sector. We also welcome candidates with transferable skills from other industries who bring strong technical expertise and a passion for engineering excellence.
- Have significant experience working in a technical or similar role with knowledge and previous involvement in delivering major complex projects across the project life cycle.
- Be motivated in the effective communication of complex issues to simple messages to enable management decisions that deliver Thames Water needs, protect people, the environment and create better outcomes for customers.
- Have detailed technical knowledge within your discipline plus experience of working across engineering disciplines and interfaces with other projects within the same site.
- Be commercially aware with a good practical understanding of engineering contracts.
- Have a desire to adopt and demonstrate behaviours aligned with Thames Water’s values.
- Be resilient, tenacious under pressure and highly motivated to successfully deliver projects safely to time, cost and quality.
- Competitive salary between £50,000 to £65,000 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of successful candidates.
