Grocery Bulk Assistant

Job Overview

The Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/Bulk Assistant assists the Grocery/Bulk and Dairy/Frozen Managers in the successful operation and profitability of these departments.

• Assisting department managers in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
• Managing margin, COGs and overall department profitability, minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
• Ensuring all in-stock products/conditions meet company standards.
• Offering and following up on special orders.
• Merchandising shelves, endcaps and dynamic displays.
• Participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking and backstock.
• Assisting in training and monitoring of department personnel, assigning and following up on tasks.
• Conducting active and passive demos.
• Working with department managers to address performance issues within the department.
• Supporting store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
• Handling register functions including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing complaints and covering register shift changes.
• Maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees.
• Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including health supportive statements and/or statements of nutritional support.
• Continuously increasing product knowledge.
• Using SAP and inventory management software, emailing and utilizing other IS programs as needed.
• Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays; position requires five days, 40 hours per week and attendance at mandatory store meetings.
• Limited Manager on Duty responsibilities, never intended to be overall Manager on Duty for the store.

All employees are expected to be “hands on” and accomplish what is needed to support the store’s success.

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• 1+ year of experience in grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background a plus.
• 1+ year of experience supervising others preferred.
• Ability to pass food safety training courses and maintain certifications.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused.
• Sense of urgency in task completion.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
