Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Grocery Clerk helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Checks product quality to ensure freshness, reviews "sell by" dates, and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products they have ordered.
  • Recommends grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Labels, stocks, and inventories department merchandise.
  • Reports product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Stays current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensures proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
  • Gains and maintains knowledge of products sold within the department and responds to questions and makes suggestions about products.
  • Creates an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and store.
  • Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions, notifying store management.
  • Practices preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Notifies management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Works cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manages conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  • Acts with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follows directions and seeks assistance when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Provides support and assistance to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Performs essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Position Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
