Employment Type

Per Diem / On‑Call; up to 20 hours per week; 2‑3 days per week (Monday‑Friday; 8‑hour shifts)

West Cancer Center (Tigard, OR)

Salary

$41.17 - $69.36 Per Hour (final offer determined by experience, qualifications, and internal equity)

Scope

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age‑specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and therapeutically manage patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Care Delivery
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments by interviewing patients about current status and medical history.
  • Collect, document, and communicate nursing assessments and interventions.
  • Review and report health status findings—including physical exams, labs, imaging, and psychosocial assessments—to the provider.
  • Prepare and administer therapies as directed by a physician, including medications and blood products, ensuring proper dosage, route, timing, and technique.
  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and manage central line catheters.
  • Monitor and modify treatment doses based on lab results, treatment plans, protocols, and provider guidance.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all patient care activities.
Patient Education & Support
  • Assess patient and family needs, providing education and relevant instructional materials.
  • Offer psychosocial support to patients and families, and assist in identifying community resources.
  • Triage patient phone calls and document key information in the medical record.
Care Coordination
  • Schedule and coordinate consultations, diagnostic tests, procedures, and follow‑up appointments.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Manage medication refill requests and communicate with pharmacies as needed.
Operational Support & Compliance
  • Ensure appropriate pre‑authorizations and consent forms are obtained prior to therapy administration.
  • Apply knowledge of billing practices, reimbursement procedures, and charge capture.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑stocked work environment; adhere to infection control and OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment according to quality control standards.
  • Follow disinfection protocols and handle hazardous materials appropriately.
Professional Collaboration & Development
  • Collaborate with clinical research staff and support study protocols as needed.
  • Act as a clinical resource for LPNs, LVNs, and Medical Assistants.
  • Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor or preceptor to less experienced nurses.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education specific to oncology nursing.
Additional Duties
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate from an accredited professional nursing education program; BSN preferred.
  • Dual licensure in Oregon (OR) and Washington (WA) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy provider card preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
Experience/Training
  • Minimum 1‑3 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology preferred.
