Job DescriptionThe Mill Operator position requires expertise in setting up and operating a 5 Axis CNC machine to produce flat, contoured, and formed parts according to inch and metric drawing specifications. This role involves reading engineered drawings, troubleshooting, and executing a variety of complex machining skills. The operator will also lead projects and mentor junior machinists.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate 5 Axis CNC to machine parts to specifications.
- Act as a technical resource for tooling and machining capabilities.
- Evaluate and justify new tooling and machining processes.
- Communicate issues related to work orders, programming errors, and material shortages.
- Focus on reducing material, labor, and scrap.
- Learn and apply manufacturing safety practices.
- Manage products and processes.
- Perform minor maintenance as required by the preventive maintenance program.
- Engage in continued education and training, including ISO 9001, safety, and blueprint reading.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
- Accurately record labor time for job tracking.
- Present a professional image in accordance with company standards.
- Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Promote safety in accordance with company policy.
- Mentor and train Machinist I, II, III.
- Lead large projects from inception to completion.
- Interact with engineers on part design.
- Advise on corrective actions.
- Document red lines and perform R&D work as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school degree or equivalent with two to three years of experience or AA degree in Machine Technology.
- Good math skills, including trigonometry.
- Ability to perform lead responsibilities effectively and professionally.
- Experience machining various plastics and metals.
- Ability to machine to .005 tolerance.
- Ability to use rotary table and divider head mill vise.
- Tooling design capabilities.
- Proficiency with inspection tooling for measuring dimensions.
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and Bill of Materials.
- Experience setting up and operating manual mills and lathes.
- Troubleshooting skills for CNC machines.
- Proficiency with precision measuring devices.
- Understanding of machine codes and CNC programming.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Skills & Qualifications
- Cross-trained in a minimum of one other discipline.
- Ability to carefully handle fragile products and perform repetitive tasks.
- Safety awareness and ability to lift and carry products weighing up to 35 pounds.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 – $37.00/hr.
