This position will support and advance the soil management research and extension program by focusing on competitive grant development, scholarly publications, and stakeholder‑focused outreach. The research associate will play a key role in drafting and coordinating grant proposals, preparing peer‑reviewed manuscripts, and developing extension publications to translate research findings into practical guidance for growers, consultants, and agency partners.
ResponsibilitiesGrant Development and Funding Support
- Advance the development, drafting, and submission of competitive grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
- Identify new funding opportunities aligned with program goals.
- Coordinate proposal components among faculty, staff, and external collaborators, including budgets and narrative sections.
- Manage proposal timelines and internal deadlines.
- Contribute to strengthening the program’s long‑term funding portfolio.
Peer‑Reviewed Publications, Scientific Writing, and Research Support
- Prepare, draft, and revise peer‑reviewed manuscripts on soil fertility, plant nutrition, and related agronomic topics.
- Synthesize research data into clear scientific publications.
- Assist with data interpretation, literature reviews, and preparation of tables and figures.
- Coordinate manuscript submission and revision process.
- Support research activities by contributing to project planning and field/lab work.
Extension and Outreach
- Develop extension publications and digital content translating research findings into practical guidance.
- Create educational materials addressing real‑world nutrient management challenges.
- Tailor outreach communications to diverse audiences while maintaining scientific accuracy.
- Adopt modern communication approaches (infographics, online articles, videos).
Collaboration, Coordination, and Program Support
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, graduate students, and external partners.
- Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing tasks.
- Support program planning with insights on funding trends and publication opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science and at least 2 years of professional experience.
- Strong background in plant nutrition and soil fertility, including nutrient cycling and soil–plant–microbe interactions.
- Experience in competitive grant writing, peer‑reviewed manuscript preparation, and development of extension materials.
- Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary, international research environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and deliver high‑quality scholarly and extension outputs.
- Work extended hours in field settings under hot and humid conditions occasionally.
- Travel long distances.
- Perform occasional lifting and handling of field equipment.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
