Tift County FACS​/ANR Summer Intern - Southwest District

Position Summary

UGA Cooperative Extension, Southwest District is seeking a paid internship for college students to work in a county Extension office. The internship is a twelve‑week employment period, starting May 11, 2026 and concluding July 31, 2026. This position does not include benefits but may earn college credits; the student will coordinate credit placement with the internship coordinator.

• County Extension Intern for Agriculture & Natural Resources – assist the agent in conducting on‑farm research plots, providing educational workshops, writing news articles & newsletters, making farm visits, answering horticulture questions, and working with community leaders.
• County Extension Intern for 4‑H Youth Development – assist the agent in planning and conducting youth programs & activities for the county, work directly with youth and adult volunteers, possibly attend a one‑week overnight 4‑H camp, and write news articles and newsletters.
• County Extension Intern for Family & Consumer Sciences – assist the agent with educational programs related to food & nutrition, financial management, housing, clothing or family well‑being, write news articles and newsletters, and assist with Extension Homemakers.

• Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (or graduates applying within the semester after graduation) are eligible.
• Interest in pursuing a career with UGA Cooperative Extension.
• Relevant majors include agriculture, animal science, biological sciences, environmental science, child and family development, forestry, foods and nutrition, human development and family science, education, health promotion, natural resource management, plant sciences.
• Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities: interest in Extension; desire to serve others; leadership, teaching, motivation and effective communication; computer skills (Microsoft Office); teamwork; high standards of professionalism in contacts, appearance and work habits.
• Physical demands: stooping, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, rigorous activity in agricultural activities and possibly 4‑H summer camps; driving required; direct interaction with children under 18; no financial resources or security access.

Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background investigation, including a criminal background check, verification of credentials, and, where applicable, a credit check.
