Job SummaryPosition Summary: Student Success at ABAC is comprised of the offices of Academic Support, Accommodation & Disability Services, the Career Center, the Counseling Center, the Tutoring Center, and TRIO Student Support Services. Academic Support houses the Academic Support Counselors and the Testing Center to provide a wide range of educational and student support services and programs to more than 4,000 undergraduates er the direction of the Director, the Academic Support Counselor will assist in the day-to-day operation of Academic Support and will provide direct services for ABACs new and continuing students from orientation to graduation.
In addition to advising, the Academic Support Counselor maintains a caseload of students on academic probation and assists them with an academic success plan. The Academic Support Counselor will assist with contacting and working with students submitted through the Early Alert System and working with new students through the First-year Learning Experience (FLEX) program. Additionally, the individual in this position will oversee the Rush-to-Register campaign each Fall and Spring and assist with learning support coordination.
- Advisement
- Assist the Academic Support Team in the pre-registration of new students for orientation
- Serve as a supplemental advisor for students
- Support retention efforts by acting as a point of contact for students returning to ABAC after an extended absence
- Support retention efforts by acting as an outreach advisor for students identified as academically at-risk through our Early Alert System
- Manage a caseload of students on academic probation and provide support and academic counseling to help the students return to good academic standing
- Manage a caseload of new students, providing an individual first-year experience to help students navigate and find early success in college
- Planning and Programming
- Provide workshops or other presentations on academic success practices as requested by other campus departments and faculty
- Support the Director with the oversight of Academic Supports Early Alert submissions, Academic Intervention Management program, Pre-Registration of incoming first-year students, learning support coordination, and speaking engagements as requested by faculty, staff, and students
- Assist with the processing and tracking of course withdrawals, complete withdrawals, transient permission, schedule adjustments, and graduation applications

- Maintain accurate records of all student interactions
- Participate in orientations and other appropriate college activities related to recruitment, retention, and success
- Available to work a flexible schedule with some travel, evenings, and weekends
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Support
- Bachelors degree;
Masters preferred in a related field - 2-3 years of experience in higher education student support services
- Strong interpersonal skills and student service commitment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
- Must be self-motivated and possess organizational skills for independent work
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including presentation skills for small and large groups
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to balance tasks, work with regular interruption, and prioritize in response to changing demands
- Experience with spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation software
- Demonstrated ability to work with electronic student records, such as Banner
- Experience with providing academic support services to undergraduate students
