Job SummaryThe Department of English and Communication at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English. The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in English (or a related discipline) and possess the expertise and credentials to teach courses in composition and journalism. The position is open until filled.
ABAC is a residential state college in Tifton, Georgia, with an approximate enrollment of 4,000. The campus features a state‑of‑the‑art media suite with broadcasting, audio, and print facilities. The Department offers a Writing and Communication B.S. degree, a Certificate in Digital Media and Professional Communication, and support for ABAC’s IMPACTS Core Curriculum. Student media opportunities include The Stallion newspaper, Stallion TV, radio station WPLH, literary magazines Pegasus and Adroit, and Horseman Press, the only student‑staffed teaching press of its kind in Georgia.
Preference will be given to candidates who are qualified and interested in serving as faculty advisor for The Stallion newspaper and/or Stallion TV.
- Teach beginning composition courses and upper‑division courses such as technical writing, editing, rhetoric, introduction to broadcasting, introduction to mass media, news writing and reporting, advanced broadcasting, digital media creation and management, mass media industries, or writing for contemporary media.
- Possess experience with academic assessment and be adept at using a variety of instructional technologies.
- Offer courses in traditional in‑class, hybrid, or online formats.
- Serve the ABAC dual enrollment population at off‑campus sites, as required, which may involve travel.
- Participate in faculty evaluation, focusing on teaching, student success, scholarship, professional growth, and professional service.
- Doctoral degree in English or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in composition, journalism, and digital media.
- Experience in academic assessment and instructional technology.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusive teaching practices.
