JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Greenstone Region – based out of Geraldton Composite High School

This position will require travel in the system.

SUMMARY:

As a key member of the Positive Behaviour Systems Support Team and Multidisciplinary Team, the Positive Behaviour Systems Support Worker is responsible for supporting educators in implementing programs and interventions for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, acts and policies of Superior-Greenstone District School Board.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working collaboratively with staff to identify student strengths, resilience and lagging skills to then determine areas of targeted skill development (individualized or classroom).
  • In collaboration with staff team to determine and prioritize areas of support and capacity building based on identified needs.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to implement programs, development of IEP goals and evidence-based ABA methods and principles to support students’ special education programming.
  • Build and Share strategies, resources and evidence-based ABA practices with schools, as related to student identified needs.
  • Enhance the knowledge of staff with respect to the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Build capacity of school staff and team in using Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLLS) and other relevant approaches.
  • Participate in case conferences, IEP development, and meetings with school and family, as requested.
  • Demonstration of targeted strategies through job-embedded learning opportunities.
  • Support school teams in developing program monitoring processes and maintaining data collection mechanisms to inform student programming as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with school teams establish and monitor effectiveness of programming for identified students from multiple schools.
  • Assist in planning, creating and delivering training modules to school staff, during Professional Activity Days and/or Professional Development opportunities.
  • Collaborates with parents/guardians, community agencies and/or service providers school teams with regards to strategies at school.
  • Create materials that support interventions and recommendations as needed.
  • Support and build capacity of school staff in board-based risk management programs to eliminate or to de-escalate student escalations.
  • Conduct as requested relevant functional behaviour assessments and skill assessments using analysis methods, interviews, observations, and checklists.
  • Support with school-based Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and development of skill-based goals with individual students as requested.
  • In-depth understanding of behaviour analytic principles and implementation of principles within an educational context.
  • Attend regular school and system-based meetings, including Professional learning opportunities.
  • Organize and facilitate internal and external referrals as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • A College Diploma in Autism and Behavioural Sciences or another specialization relevant to the position, or a combination of experience, education and training.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressive related experience in a unionized environment.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in provision of strategies to support students who have or are suspected of having an ASD.
  • Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft applications, e-mail, cloud-based applications.
  • Knowledge of PPM-140 initiative and methods of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
