Overview

RN (Part-Time) - Sherwood Oaks Post Acute (Healthcare)

Registered Nurse (RN) involved in supervising the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the shift, ensuring adherence to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. May be required by the Director of Nursing (DON) and/or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to ensure the highest quality of care at all times.

Responsibilities

Administrative Functions

  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines for the long-term care facility.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures for the nursing service department.
  • Ensure reference material (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses  stations is current; recommend materials to meet residents  day-to-day needs.
  • Keep the Nursing Service Procedures Manual current and representative of daily nursing procedures.
  • Ensure nursing service personnel comply with Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary concerning the nursing service department.
  • Periodically review department policies, procedures, and job descriptions; recommend revisions.
  • Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Ensure staff compliance with their job descriptions.
  • Participate in the facility s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) as requested by Administration.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans as required; assist in planning nursing services portion of discharge plans.
  • Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan department services, programs, and activities.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as necessary.
  • Protect resident information and report violations; maintain confidentiality.

Committee Functions

  • Attend facility committee meetings (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment) as required.
  • Prepare written and/or oral reports of nursing service programs for committees.
  • Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.
  • Participate in developing the agenda for Care Plan Committee meetings as necessary.
  • Participate in reviews of discharge plans and make plans available to the Care Plan Committee as required.
  • Implement committee recommendations as instructed by the Director.

Personnel Functions

  • Ensure sufficient licensed practical and/or registered nurses are available during your tour to maintain quality care.
  • Ensure sufficient certified nursing assistants are available to meet daily care needs.
  • Develop work assignments and assist in completing tasks.
  • Delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurse as needed.
  • Ensure all nursing assistants are enrolled in or graduated from an approved nursing assistant program.
  • Ensure nurse aide trainees are under direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Make daily rounds to ensure staff performance; report findings to the Director.
  • Monitor absenteeism to maintain adequate staffing; report issues to the Director.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and dress codes.
  • Address complaints and grievances and report as required.
  • Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental staff and other departments.
  • Foster a warm, supportive, calm environment; lead shift meetings to identify and address problems.
  • Review staffing and departmental performance; make recommendations to the Director.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing decisions; advise on dismissals or transfers as needed.
  • Ensure disciplinary actions are fair and non-discriminatory.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per policy.
