Basic FunctionCalifornia Lutheran University (CLU) Community Counseling Services (CCS) clinics provide therapy to children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. CCS operates one of the largest university-based, low-fee community counseling clinics in California, delivering over 10,000 low-fee therapy sessions annually to residents of Ventura County and Western LA County. All therapy sessions are provided by Master’s and Doctoral students supervised by licensed clinicians (LMFT, PsyD, PhD, LPCC, LCSW) approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or the California Board of Psychology.
CCS offers therapy services in Spanish and English.
- Meet individually or in groups with students to oversee the quality of their clinical work and assist in skill development.
- Coordinate clinical supervision activities with the Clinic Director.
- Review student clinical notes and video recordings, provide revision suggestions and clinical guidance, and sign off on final notes.
- Collaborate with the Clinic Director to ensure students meet professional development goals and provide quality counseling services.
- Track supervision hours, weekly client hours, and hour reporting requirements.
- Complete student evaluations in the required format twice yearly.
- Oversee the trainee's clinical work and legal/ethical practice.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- California law and ethics related to the practice of MFT or Psy Ds (depending on trainee).
- Clinical supervision, theory, and practice.
- For MFT supervision: current theories and interventions with a systemic perspective.
- For doctoral supervision: knowledge and practice of evidence-based theories and interventions.
- Behave in a professional and ethical manner.
- Form professional relationships and maintain respectful boundaries.

- Maintain confidentiality.
- Utilize interpersonal skills such as tact, patience, and courtesy.
Possession of a master's degree or doctorate from a recognized graduate institution and a clinical license recognized by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or California Board of Psychology.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous professional experience supervising associates or students.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated commitment to working in diverse, multicultural and multiracial communities.
A current CA license is required (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, licensed psychologist). A minimum of two years post-licensure professional experience and successful completion of required supervision courses.
Physical AbilitiesManual dexterity, ability to operate office equipment; speaking to provide instruction and presentations; sitting or standing for extended periods; lifting light objects; bending and reaching to store/retrieve files.
