Location: Santa Maria, CA
Basic Function: Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member provides academic instruction for assigned graduate courses.
Responsibilities- Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher‑order thinking.
- Advise students on programs of study, other higher‑education institutions, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer students as appropriate.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize learning in alignment with department and university goals.
- Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials per campus bookstore procedure.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Current theory and practice within the subject discipline.
- Principles and best practices of effective teaching.
- Thorough knowledge in the subject field.
- Ability to deliver curricula in various learning styles.
- Sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.
- Ability to integrate emerging instructional technologies.
- Maintain professional standards protecting student confidentiality.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Possession of a master’s degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing or equivalent experience.

Physical AbilitiesManual dexterity to operate office equipment; speaking, presenting; sitting or standing for extended periods; pushing, pulling or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to store and/or retrieve files.
Working EnvironmentIndoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.
Compensation$32.00–$34.50 per hour
