Compensation: $75,000-$90,000 annually, based on experience

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and collaborative Project Accountant to join our growing manufacturing team in Thornton, Colorado
. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial tracking of manufacturing and capital projects from inception through completion. The Project Accountant partners closely with Project Managers, Operations, Engineering, and Finance to monitor budgets, analyze costs, support forecasting, and ensure financial compliance across all assigned projects.

This position is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in manufacturing, construction, or project‑based environments who enjoys working closely with operational teams and driving financial visibility.

Responsibilities
  • Project & Cost Accounting
    • Set up and maintain project accounting structures, including budgets, cost codes, and work breakdown structures
    • Track and analyze project costs, including labor, materials, overhead, and subcontractor costs
    • Ensure accurate job costing and timely cost recognition throughout the project lifecycle
    • Monitor project margins and identify cost variances, risks, and opportunities
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Prepare monthly project financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses
    • Support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
    • Assist with month‑end close activities related to project accounting
    • Reconcile project accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Collaboration & Controls
    • Partner with project managers and operations leadership to review budgets, timelines, and cost performance
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies
    • Support internal and external audits by providing project documentation and financial support
    • Assist with process improvements related to project accounting, reporting, and system usage
  • Systems & Process Improvement
    • Maintain accurate data within the ERP system (job cost modules, PO tracking, WIP reporting)
    • Support implementation or enhancement of project accounting tools and reporting capabilities
    • Identify opportunities to improve cost visibility and reporting efficiency
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in:
    • Manufacturing
    • Construction
    • Engineering or project‑based environments
  • Experience with job costing, project accounting, or WIP reporting strongly preferred

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, JD Edwards, Net Suite, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with finance and non‑finance stakeholders
