• Operate 8-yard dump trucks with plow, sander, and blade attachments for snow removal and aggregate hauling
• Use motor graders for ditching, surface repair, and snow operations
• Transport heavy equipment with semi-tractors, lowboys, belly dumps, and water tankers
• Operate dozers (D4–D7), loaders, and snow blowers for material handling and snow removal
• Perform loader work in pits, snow dumping, and material loading
• Handle general duties: flagging, maintenance, manual labor, and shop cleanup
• May act as lead, entering daily data into the State MMS system
• Operate steam boilers to thaw drainage structures
• Weld and cut materials for equipment maintenance and repair

This is a non-permanent full-time position located in Thompson Pass, Alaska, within the Valdez District. Expect a dynamic, fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities and conditions. You’ll work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging weather or terrain. Shift work and emergency responses are part of the role, and safety is a priority. Our supportive team and ongoing training ensure you have the tools to succeed in any situation.

Working in Thompson Pass offers a rare chance to live and work in one of Alaska’s most iconic and scenic mountain corridors. Located just outside of Valdez, Thompson Pass is known for its dramatic peaks, deep snowpack, and stunning views of the Chugach Mountains. Once a historic pack trail and later a vital military route, the area is now a critical part of Alaska’s transportation network, requiring skilled equipment operators to keep this high-elevation route open and safe year-round.
