Tool and Die Maker builds, repairs, and maintains dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer and/or company specifications per control plans. The role requires reading tool & die designs, prints, and applying basic show math and trigonometry.
- Responsible for the development, maintenance and/or repair of stamping dies (both progressive & secondary dies) in accordance with engineering supplied blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Supports production department with tooling needs; responds to shop‑floor calls in a timely manner.
- Assures safe operation and care of tool room equipment.
- Produces quality work in a timely manner.
- Assesses complex tooling and equipment needs and refurbishes as required.
- Troubleshoots and solves tooling problems without assistance.
- Set‑ups and operates all tool room equipment.
- Works to continuously improve tooling and reduce scrap.
- Maintains housekeeping and other activities as assigned.
- Leads continuous improvement and emergency repair projects individually or within a team.
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Journeyman Tool & Die Maker and/or completion of an apprenticeship (4 years) or advanced manufacturing certificate, followed by at least 4 years of on‑the‑job training.
- Five years’ experience in the trade; emphasis on small precision stampings from progressive dies.
- Knowledge/experience with AutoCAD, Solid‑Works, and EDM (a plus).
- Ability to use precise measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, dial indicators, etc.
- Ability to operate all standard tool room equipment such as milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, lathes, etc.; CNC machine set‑up a plus.
