Assistant Professor of Special Education

DESCRIPTION:

Thomas University, an independent, not-for-profit, institution of higher education in Thomasville, Georgia with undergraduate and graduate programs invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Special Education program housed in the Division of Education. The position requires teaching courses at the Baccalaureate and Master's (MEd and MAT) levels, scholarship and service responsibilities, and program leadership. Reporting to the division chair, the position is an academic, remote appointment to begin in August, 2026.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Education Specialist in Special Education or in a related education field.

* Minimum of three or more years of practical and effective P-12 experience working as a special education teacher and in special education leadership roles.

* Demonstrated ability to effectively teach using innovative instructional approaches, methods, and technologies to deliver instruction in an online delivery format.

* Demonstrated ability to seek and create strong P-12 district partnerships to support program development and recruiting efforts.

* A record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the field of special education.

* Experience hiring and supervising personnel.

* A record of working collaboratively with colleagues to enhance programs and initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Working knowledge of special education standards, including national and Georgia-developed standards and accreditation.

* Hold a leadership degree and a record of leadership experience at the P-12 level.
