DescriptionThe Electric Foreman is a management level position responsible for directing, supervising, and coordinating the daily operations of the City of Thomaston Electric Department field crews. This position oversees construction, maintenance, repair, and emergency response activities for the electric distribution system. The Electric Foreman exercises independent judgment and is accountable for personnel performance, safety compliance, work quality, and system reliability.
Responsibilities- Plans, assigns, and supervises daily work activities of electric utility personnel
- Manages construction, maintenance, repair, and upgrade of electric distribution systems
- Directs outage response, storm restoration, and emergency operations
- Ensures compliance with applicable safety rules, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements
- Conducts safety meetings and enforces safe work practices
- Supervises, trains, evaluates, and disciplines assigned personnel
- Reviews and approves work orders, time records, and material usage
- Inspects work in progress and completed work for quality and compliance
- Coordinates work with contractors, inspectors, other utilities, and City departments
- Troubleshoots complex electrical system issues and provides technical guidance
- Recommends improvements to operations, equipment, and procedures
- Operates electric utility equipment when necessary to support crews
- Responds to after hours calls and emergency situations
- Performs related duties as required
This position directly supervises electric utility personnel. Responsibilities include work assignment, training, performance evaluation, and enforcement of departmental policies and safety standards.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Advanced knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility operations
- Knowledge of electrical construction and maintenance practices
- Knowledge of applicable safety standards and electrical codes
- Knowledge of supervisory and personnel management principles
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work activities
- Ability to supervise employees and enforce accountability
- Ability to interpret system maps, schematics, and technical documents
- Ability to respond effectively during emergency situations
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff, leadership, contractors, and the public
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility operations
- Prior supervisory or management experience required
- Completion of advanced electric utility training programs
- Valid Georgia driver’s license appropriate for equipment operated
- Ability to meet insurability requirements under City policy
- Journeyman Lineman certification preferred

Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and near energized electrical equipment. Use of personal protective equipment is required. Availability for emergency response outside normal work hours is required.
