Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing daily leadership to all maintenance staff covering multiple shifts during the production season. This role is accountable for overseeing all maintenance activities within the facilities, including preventative maintenance programs, repairs, and equipment upkeep, ensuring the plant's machinery operates efficiently and safely to maximize production uptime while adhering to food safety and regulatory standards. The Maintenance Manager will work closely and effectively with other departments, vendors, and other stakeholders to meet company objectives and goals.

Supervisory

Responsibilities
  • Oversight of 24/7 maintenance staffing & functions during the Production Season (typically April through December); and weekday maintenance staffing and functions during the rest of the year.
  • Direct reports will include maintenance technicians spanning multiple shifts and serving two processing plants, as well as oversight of all maintenance functions for the office building, and an offsite freezer storage warehouse in Thief River Falls, MN. This role is accountable for the training and supervision of all employees of the maintenance department.
Essential Functions
  • Reinforces and promotes a culture of safe work practices and ensures the work environment is safe within areas of responsibility, and across the company. Handles this through staff education, guidance, frequent safety audits and compliance checks on daily work practices, plus handles disciplinary actions when necessary for safety and compliance infractions. Implements and maintains safety protocols for the maintenance team.
  • Responds promptly to equipment breakdowns and diagnose issues. Oversees repairs and ensure proper functionality of equipment after maintenance.
  • Monitors and tracks maintenance schedules, ensuring timely completion of inspections and servicing.
  • Assigns work orders and ensures timely completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Ensures operational efficiency of electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection and repair. Develops and implements comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all plant equipment.
  • Coordinates with vendors for necessary repairs or parts replacements.
  • Manages maintenance budget and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Oversees the management of ammonia refrigeration system and compliance with PSM program.
  • Coordinated planned maintenance shutdowns to minimize disruption to production schedules.
  • Identifies areas for improvement within the maintenance process and implement changes. Explores new maintenance-related technologies and maintenance practices to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Analyzes maintenance data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Broad experience with the maintenance of Ammonia Systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with hourly team members and senior leadership both verbally and in writing (Bilingual English and Spanish preferred).
  • Industrial project management experience to include the oversight of maintenance projects to include equipment upgrades, facility modifications, and capital expenditures.
  • Ability to work with internal leadership, OSHA, USDA and other outside agencies to maintain compliance with federal, state and customer requirements.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Flexibility with work hours as needed for business operations.
Education and Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience working in poultry/food processing environment with at least 2 years of experience as a formal people leader.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically capable of walking long distances, climbing ladders, bending, crouching, lifting moderate weights (up to 50 pounds), and working in a sometimes cold, wet, and noisy environment, while wearing required protective gear; may also need to be able to access tight spaces to inspect and repair machinery.
