Description
Monitor pool activities, ensure consistent enforcement of the township rules and policies, and educate patrons about the purpose of these rules. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and provide swimming instruction as appropriate.
Actively scan the designated area of responsibility in accordance with training. Identify and respond to emergency situations; administer first aid, CPR, or other care as appropriate.
Inspect facilities for cleanliness and to ensure they are free of hazards.
Perform general maintenance in and around the pool, including determining the chlorine content and pH value of the water with a water‑testing kit.
Wear prescribed uniform and conduct oneself in a professional manner while in township uniform and/or at a township facility/pool.
Report hazardous situations, then eliminate or minimize the danger.
Assist with greeting patrons/guests at the front desk, scanning daily passes, and provide excellent customer service.
Attend required in‑service training as required by the Aquatics Department.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Summary of DutiesUnder the general supervision of the Head Lifeguard and Pool Supervisor, lifeguards are responsible for ensuring public safety, enforcing pool rules, preventing accidents, maintaining overall cleanliness of the facility, and applying disciplinary action for violators. Expected to perform rescues, apply necessary first aid, activate the emergency medical system, and assist advanced medical personnel and notify proper authorities during emergency situations.

Pre‑Season: Weekends beginning in May 2026, selected pools will be open weekends from 12pm to 6pm. All pools will be open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026.
Regular Season: May 2026 through August 2026.
Post‑Season: Weekends beginning in August 2026 through September 7, 2026, selected pools will be open weekends from 12pm to 6pm.
Remember that lifeguarding is a seasonal job, so it is important that you are available to work the entire regular season.
Approved 2026 Lifeguard Pay ScaleLifeguard: starting at $12.50/hour
Lifeguard (Rob Fleming Aquatic Center): starting at $13.50/hour
Take notice of the pay differential for the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center staff. There will be additional waterpark training necessary for lifeguards that are working at RFAC.

- Education: Less than high school education.
- Experience: No related experience or training required. Previous lifeguarding experience a plus.
