Overview
Description Summary of Duties:
Perform preventive maintenance on fire department apparatus and equipment. Perform minor to moderate repairs on apparatus and equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance of fire apparatus.
- Perform minor to moderate repairs on apparatus and equipment. Diagnose, adjust, repair and service a variety of systems, including heating and air conditioning, engine and emission, suspension and steering, braking and electrical systems.
- Drive and operate Fire Department apparatus.
- Order supply needed to perform tasks and repairs.
- Perform physical inventories periodically.
- Place order for supplies directly with vendors.
- Keep logs of equipment repairs and maintenance of equipment.
- Oversee apparatus, associated equipment.
- Communicate with apparatus manufactures as needed.
- Assist logistics staff with special projects.
- Maintain Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification to a minimum of Level 2.
- Check operating efficiency of fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and fire mechanical equipment.
- Performs inspection and conformity to required Department of Transportation standards for commercial vehicles.
- Ensures fire apparatus conforms to commercial Department of Transportation and National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Associate Degree (A.
A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school.
Experience: Three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses And Certifications
- Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification required, Level 2 minimum.
- Possess a valid Class B exempt or CDL license and have an acceptable driving record.
- In addition, the individual is required to pass a physical exam and an appropriate driving test.
