Shift: PRN - Nights
The Operations Administrator (OA) provides operational oversight and leadership throughout the organization, making timely decisions that directly impact patient care and fostering interdepartmental and interprofessional collaboration that reflects the mission and values of Houston Methodist.

Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing;
Master’s degree preferred. - Experience: Five years of hospital experience in nursing, or four years if internal to Houston Methodist, with progressive leadership responsibilities (e.g., charge nurse).
- Licenses & Certifications (Required):
- RN – Registered Nurse (Texas State Licensure, Texas Board of Nursing)
- BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
- NVCRISIS – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI)
- Magnet‑ANCC recognized certification (HM)
- Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrates competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, assessed through ongoing skills and performance evaluations.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English, especially for activities impacting patient or employee safety.
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers, applying positive language principles.
- Conflict resolution skills for timely resolution with patients, families, physicians, and team members.

- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

- Assigns available personnel, assesses triage assignments and makes appropriate modifications during the shift; plans and coordinates staffing needs for subsequent shifts.
- Role‑models interprofessional communication, including active listening, teaching, and respectful dissemination of organizational information.
- Conducts fair and consistent leadership, fosters team dynamics and teambuilding, supports policy adherence, provides disciplinary measures, and assists with staff stress management.
- Improves department score for turnover/retention/employee engagement.
- Coordinates and expedites admission/discharge, transfer, and bed‑control processes to optimize patient flow; monitors and facilitates smooth, timely patient flow.
- Provides bed‑assignment support as needed.
- Oversees activity in hospital operations during the shift; manages administrative issues, informs and documents pertinent information to Executive On‑Call, executive staff, directors, and managers.
- Partners with public relations to manage outside media.
- Troubleshoots problems regarding patient/family care, visitors, and facility issues on off‑shifts and weekends; drives service standards and activities to improve department score for patient satisfaction.
- Monitors and analyzes work methods, staff scheduling, and makes adjustments to assure high service quality and cost effectiveness.
- Maintains awareness/responsiveness of all emergency codes and disaster preparedness; coordinates during critical situations; models situational awareness.
- Participates in, leads, or facilitates department process improvements.
- Attends daily care coordination rounds to facilitate patient progression; manages bed closures and staffing allocation/cancellations to optimize efficiencies and reduce overtime.
- Implements department strategies to achieve financial targets and staffing needs; mentors others through timely documentation, reduced length of stay, optimized efficiency, and minimized incidental overtime.
- Serves as mentor/role model and actively participates in hospital quality, service, and shared governance councils; provides recommendations for improvements within and across departments/units, committees, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supports change initiatives and adapts to unexpected changes.
- Seeks opportunities to identify developmental needs of self and staff and takes appropriate action; ensures career discussions with management and maintains an ongoing individual development plan (IDP).
