REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
Drillchem Drilling Solutions, a leading provider of specialty chemicals to the Oil & Gas, HDD, and Pipeline industries, is seeking a Lab Manager for its US operations. This position is based in The Woodlands, TX, and reports directly to the Director of Technology.
OVERVIEWThe primary responsibility will be to support the sales and engineering team by performing research and development, QA/QC testing, and manage other lab members in these similar areas. Qualified candidates will have 5+ years of previous lab experience and will need to be familiar with the properties and measurements associated with Oil and Gas drilling fluids and sealant materials. Experience in the design and evaluation of lubricants, drilling and completion fluid systems, or midstream pipeline chemicals is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct research and testing of existing products, development of new products and technology including synthesis and/or product performance testing.
- Ensure that all equipment used in the testing is properly calibrated and maintained with proper documentation.
- Interface with division personnel in troubleshooting problems with products, hardware, testing/synthesis equipment, and method development.
- Compile, analyze and correlate technical data and write laboratory reports on projects for internal and external customers and provide progress reports.
- Conduct literature searches, including patent reviews and gather pertinent information relating to specific technical problems.
- Review analytical and quality data for completeness and accuracy for in-process material, batches, storage tanks, shipments, etc.
- Direct technicians to ensure that all laboratory activities are conducted in a timely manner and according to policies and procedures.
- Assist the Director of Technology with the regular project updates, performance evaluations, feedback, and coaching of the lab personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to be a hands‑on chemist and carry out some repetitive testing.
- Ensure that activities in the laboratories and associated operations are in compliance with the safety policies and programs of the company, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
- 5+ years of related laboratory experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or equivalent is required.
- Excellent multi‑tasking and communication skills.
- Must be a self‑starter and have willingness to learn new technologies.
- Previous knowledge of polymer chemistry, particularly water‑soluble polymers, is a plus.
