POSITION SUMMARY
The Controls Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading and developing a team of approximately eight Controls Engineers, consisting of both Senior and Junior engineers. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people management, training development, and project execution responsibility.
The Supervisor oversees the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of control systems for industrial applications, with a primary focus on mobile power generation packages and supporting auxiliary systems. This position serves as a key technical authority and cross‑functional liaison, ensuring controls deliverables meet quality, schedule, safety, and regulatory requirements from concept through commissioning and handover.
In addition to technical execution, this role is accountable for mentoring engineers, developing structured training plans, standardizing workflows, and acting as a key stakeholder in project planning and execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Technical & Engineering Leadership- Lead the design, development, and implementation of control systems for industrial applications, including software architecture, hardware design, instrumentation, DC distribution, and low‑voltage AC distribution.
- Act as the technical authority for Controls Engineering sub‑systems across new builds, upgrades, and product development initiatives.
- Serve as the primary Controls Engineering liaison for manufacturing of mobile power generation packages utilizing gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and battery energy storage systems.
- Review and approve control system designs, schematics, P&IDs, software, and functional specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards, legislation, and internal design practices.
- Establish and maintain control system documentation standards, including functional specifications, FAT procedures, and O&M manuals.
- Approve final drawing releases and oversee redline/markup reviews as part of the document control process.
- Directly supervise and mentor a team of Senior and Junior Controls Engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development support.
- Develop and maintain structured training plans tailored to engineer experience levels, including onboarding, competency development, and advancement pathways.
- Identify skill gaps and proactively assign work, training, or mentoring to build depth and redundancy within the team.
- Establish consistent engineering workflows, best practices, and standardized processes to improve quality and efficiency.
- Promote a culture of accountability, technical rigor, and continuous improvement within the Controls Engineering team.
- Act as a key Controls Engineering stakeholder in project planning, scheduling, and execution, ensuring deliverables align with project timelines and scope.
- Support Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechanical, and Field Services teams during package build, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning to verify control systems operate per approved functional specifications.
- Provide onsite and remote troubleshooting support for deployed assets as required.
- Evaluate supplier technologies, products, and services to support technical proposals, standardization efforts, and new product development.
- Contribute to the development of new products and the continuous improvement of existing control system architectures and platforms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE LEVEL
- Bachelor's degree in the field of controls engineering or similar.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of previous power generation experience, preferably specializing in electrical and/or instrumentation and control.
