Overview
Adjunct Faculty, Kinesiology at Lone Star College (LSC) – Part-time, semester-by-semester appointments based on student demand. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year. Classes are offered at various times and locations, including day, evening, and weekend sessions.
Job DescriptionPurpose and scope:
It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning.
- Teaches Physical Education and Kinesiology courses at a variety of times and locations
- Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
- Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
- Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
- Meets with and advises students before or after class or by appointment, via electronic communication or other appropriate methods
- Evaluates students to measure progress toward course objectives and informs students of progress in a timely manner
- Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
- Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned
- Mastery of course content
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and appreciate alternative viewpoints
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning
- Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning
- Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology
- Ability to engage students using effective instructional strategies
- Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, exercise physiology, sports administration (kinesiology-focused) or Master's with 18 graduate hours in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, exercise physiology, or sports administration (kinesiology-focused)
$55.44 per contact hour.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone and standard office equipment; other equipment as required by the discipline
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with typical safety considerations
- Hours vary with class times; instructors are expected to meet scheduled class times and be available to students outside of instruction
