Position: Small Business Spanish Advisor/Instructor (Part-time)

Description

General Narrative Description of Position

The Small Business Counselor/Instructor provides leadership, client counseling and instruction to existing and prospective small business owners in the Columbia Gorge region. The Small Business Advisor/Instructor will promote the services of the SBDC, the College and will do direct outreach to encourage business owners to receive counseling or attend business training opportunities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Instruct and coach beginning small businesses and entrepreneurs whose knowledge of the business arena may be in the early stages of development in both English and Spanish.
  • Work with established businesses in addressing their changing business management needs.
  • Translate instructional and marketing material from English to Spanish.
  • Teach a variety of courses which may include, but are not limited to: marketing, record keeping, personnel management, financial management, business planning, laws and legislation affecting business. These courses may be taught in CGCC classrooms, at partner locations or via video conferencing.
  • Develop and revise training curriculum, marketing materials and business assistance tools, as needed.
  • Use web-based database to track and record client counseling activities and hours, and submit written reports upon request.
  • Requires travel throughout the Mid-Columbia region.
  • Provide community outreach and communications to the Latino community in The Gorge.
  • Maintain a high degree of client confidentiality and follow policies and procedures of the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network.
  • Marginal Job Functions
  • Recruits client businesses for all Business Development Center programs within the Latino community.
  • Work with the director and advisory committee to update CGCC SBDC Workplan.
  • Work with funding partners and college personnel to provide information for tracking client and program success.
  • Work closely with other instructors, counselors and staff members to serve SBDC clients.
  • Obtain current market information.
  • Maintain favorable relationships with the college and the community.
  • Act as liaison between local government agencies or people regulating, assisting or affecting business management and operations in the Mid-Columbia region.

    None.

    Requirements Experience

    Three years business ownership or five years employment in a significant management capacity (direct profit and loss responsibility) or in a small business advising capacity preferred. Must have the ability to provide advice to small business entrepreneurs and have the ability to teach adult learners.

    Educational Background

    A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, financing, or accounting from an accredited institution is preferred but not necessary.

    • Demonstrates knowledge and good judgment in matters of college policy and procedures.
    • Dresses and maintains self in a professional manner.
    • Able to help targeted minorities.
