Compensation: $19–$22 per hour
About the Role:
Do you love seeing a great idea come to life? Are you energized by checklists, timelines, and the buzz of a crowd coming together? The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for an Events & Program Specialist
who enjoys the behind-the-scenes work that makes community events feel effortless, welcoming, and memorable.
This role supports some of The Dalles’ most beloved traditions, from parades and festivals to business networking events, and plays a key part in bringing people together. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, calm under pressure, and excited to work in a role where no two weeks look exactly the same.
What You’ll Be Doing:
You’ll assist with planning, coordinating, and executing Chamber and community events, including but not limited to:
- Northwest Cherry Festival
- Fourth of July Parade & Activities
- Starlight Parade & Tree Lighting
- Wired With the Chamber events
- Morning Buzz & Business After Hours networking events
Your work will include:
- Creating event timelines, run-of-show plans, and detailed task lists
- Coordinating logistics such as permits, street closures, equipment, rentals, signage, and supplies
- Collaborating with city departments, public safety, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and Chamber staff
- Feet on the ground for event set-up, tear-down, site coordination
- Supporting sponsor recognition and event deliverables
- Solving problems calmly and creatively as they arise
Working with Volunteers & Partners
- Recruit, schedule, and communicate with volunteers
- Provide clear instructions and friendly on-site direction
- Serve as a key point of contact during events
Staying Organized Behind the Scenes
- Maintain event documentation and post-event notes
- Assist with reporting and follow-up with the CEO and partners
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
- Comfort working in fast-paced, public-facing environments
- Clear, professional, and approachable communication skills
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary
- Ability to lift and carry event materials (approximately 30 lbs.)
Preferred:
- Event planning or coordination experience
- Experience working with volunteers
- Familiar with nonprofit, chamber, tourism, or community organizations
