Job Context

This apprenticeship will include an Electromechanical degree (BEng) from our learning provider; it will allow you to get a head start in your career by gaining real world insight and experience in a fast‑paced and ever‑changing industry.

Electromechanical Engineers are able to solve real‑world problems using a combination of mechanical and electrical engineering expertise. This occupation requires the understanding of software programming, the ability to interpret data, the use of a range of CAD and software tools, and the operation of mechanical systems via electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic means, in combination with project resources management responsibility.

The opportunity to earn while you learn will give you a head start in your career, you won’t just learn the theory behind an Electromechanical degree, you will have the opportunity to put that theory into practice and work on real‑world projects throughout your degree.

You will be part of the wider Lucy Group so will be exposed to a number of different businesses that will be able to enhance the breadth of knowledge that is available to you.

Job Dimensions

The structure of the apprenticeship is as follows:

  • 5‑year engagement whereby you will be permanently employed by Lucy Electric whilst studying part‑time at university
  • You will receive a full honours degree upon completion, Lucy Electric will fully sponsor your degree, including a competitive salarydates, university tuition fees and accommodation costs for your block release.
  • 6 one‑week block teaching weeks each year.
  • Extended workplace placements (rotations) in multiple engineering related departments during your degree such as:
    Design Engineering, Prototype, Technical, Applications and Contract Engineering, Quality, Industrial, Process and Production Engineering, Operations Management, Software, Hardware and even Product Management.
  • Dedicated mentor throughout your studies who will assist with your rotations, study leave, induction to the various business departments and generally being a go‑to‑contact during the start of your career with us.

We offer a unique programme that demonstrates a mix of electrical, mechanical and general engineering input and is designed to meet the evolving skills needed in this sector.

In the first two years of the course, you will cover the foundations of electromechanical engineering. In the third and fourth years you will focus on systems design, including a group design module.

In the final year you will have the opportunity to integrate your knowledge and understanding from the previous four years into your job role, carrying out a real‑life electromechanical engineering project within your organisation.
