Route Service Technician Job Overview
The Route Service Technician is primarily responsible for operating a company truck and driving to various customer locations to deliver, pick up, maintain, service, or repair portable restrooms, hand sinks, holding tanks, or any asset assigned. The route may be a daily route, pickup and delivery schedule, yard/shop assistant duties, or special events. This position involves exposure to extreme weather, unpleasant odors, and variable physical demands.
Responsibilities- Operates truck safely complying with all local, state, federal regulations and company policies.
- Maintains a clean truck interior and exterior.
- Performs daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections as set forth by Stallion Infrastructure Services procedures and D.O.T. guidelines.
- Follows all Stallion Infrastructure Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and General Standards.
- Reports unsafe situations or service‑related issues to dispatch promptly.
- Performs all tasks assigned by Branch Operations Manager, including delivery, pick‑up, restocking, shop and yard organization, departmental assistance, and emergency calls.
- Provides service for customers’ portable restrooms or related assets following Stallion Infrastructure Services Service Steps.
- Keeps work areas in yard clean and organized, notifies Branch Manager of hazards.
- Communicates with Branch Operations Manager and office staff about items that can hinder a job (inventory, keys, chemicals, supplies).
- Submits all route information and paperwork to the office at end of each shift.
- Utilizes dispatching software for routing, documenting photos, and logging customer concerns.
- Maintains professional interaction with employees and customers.
- Provides courteous and expeditious customer service, documenting interactions via routing software tablet.
- Answers customer questions and directs them to office for additional information.
- Provides routing feedback to office and dispatcher for efficiency.
- Wears uniforms at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read, operate, and understand an electronic map/GPS/dispatching system using phone or iPad.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing).
- General knowledge of truck mechanics.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred ability to pull a trailer.
- Waste industry experience preferred.
- Varied environmental conditions: temperature, weather, noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust.
- Possible exposure to human waste.
- Possible exposure to high traffic while outside vehicle.
- Position outdoors and/or driving a GPS‑monitored vehicle.
- Physically able to push or pull 50 pounds independently 25–50 times a day.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds from ground to waist height 25–50 times a day.
- Physically able to get up and down from cab 30–50 times a day.
- Physically able to lift 100 pounds with assistance 20–30 times a day.
- Physically able to bend at waist and knees 120–150 times a day.
- Physically able to reach overhead and pull down using 20 pounds of force and secure a tarp.
- Physically able to climb up to 8 feet to deploy a 25‑pound tarp.
- Physically able to work 8–12 hours in extreme weather conditions.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- 1‑year previous commercial driving experience preferred.
- Valid driver license.
- Must pass pre‑employment background screen and drug/alcohol tests.
- Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology used by Stallion Infrastructure Services.
- Understand waste collection policies and D.O.T. requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
- Normal hearing and visual ranges with or without correction.
