Overview
Cimarron is seeking a TIG Welder to support our partnership with Firefly Aerospace at their rocket production facility in Briggs, TX. Through this partnership, Cimarron supplies skilled technical talent in support of Firefly Aerospace’s advanced launch and space systems. Firefly designs and builds small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles for government and commercial missions from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond.
Together, our teams leverage advanced carbon composite structures, patented propulsion technologies, and common components across platforms to move fast, improve reliability, and deliver payloads at a lower cost.
- Perform work in accordance with established policies, procedures, and technical specifications.
- Perform welding on aluminum and steel structures, assemblies, and piping to required tolerances using applicable techniques such as stick, TIG, and MIG.
- Determine layouts and weld parts, assemblies, and piping in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret complex piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and shop drawings to support installation, troubleshooting, and repair of systems and components.
- Perform tube, piping, and conduit installation to support fluid system fabrication, upgrades, and modifications.
- Utilize a wide range of mechanical and test tools, including wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and plug and pin gages, to perform work to specification and identify issues.
- Conduct safety checks and operate heavy equipment such as boom lifts and forklifts in accordance with safety requirements.
- Maintain general housekeeping standards and contribute to continuous improvement of site appearance and organization.
- Travel to launch sites as required to support overall program objectives.
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for consideration at this time.
- 5 or more years of relevant welding experience.
- Experience performing MIG, TIG, stick, and flux-core welding processes.
- Experience with both structural and pipe welding applications.
- Strong understanding of heat input, heat control, and use of heat-absorbing methods to prevent part distortion and warping.
- Working knowledge of general shop practices, including layout, drilling, sawing, and grinding.
- Current welding certifications for TIG welding on materials ranging from 1/4 inch up to 6 inches in thickness.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&IDs.
- Ability to support overtime hours and weekend work as business needs require.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks on elevated structures.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with and welding stainless steel cryogenic piping systems.
- Experience operating forklifts, cranes, and other shop equipment, with lifting and rigging experience.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose mechanical equipment issues and implement timely, effective solutions.
