HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. Performs advanced (senior level) restoration, renovation, building maintenance and construction work in a designated skilled trade. Work involves renovation, restoration, alteration, making inspections, adjustments, installations, maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, dependent on the trade and operating motorized equipment, requisitioning material and supplies; and maintaining records. Processes paperwork related to work orders, projects, and material requisitions. Acts as lead worker, providing training and guidance to others;

assigns, and/or prioritizes workload. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance and repair work in accordance with recognized codes and standards on building systems for various trades associated with the assembly, installation, repairs, of doors, door locks and door hardware, including all the gates for the perimeter fencing. Maintains, tests, troubleshoots and repairs all components associated with the fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, carpentry, painting and electrical, to ensure proper maintenance and repair.

Demonstrates the use of hand tools and/or equipment while performing repairs or inspections. Evaluates work to be performed and determines the best method for performing maintenance and repair work.

Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building, building system or adapt it to new uses. Designs projects to conform to applicable codes and standards. Identifies necessary information such as time and physical location. Identifies necessary materials and assembly details. Ensures that the necessary tools and manpower are available to perform the work. Makes in-process inspections to ensure the job is being done properly.

Selects appropriate material to replace and repair building or building systems. Recognizes failures in the operation of the equipment. Correctly identifies the cause of the system or equipment failure and…
