Job Description

SUMMARY:

A Workover Rig Floor Hand is responsible for performing services on oil wells utilizing a double, single, and Pole Rig. The duties of the floor hand include assisting in rigging up/down, pulling/laying rods, tubing, casing and other functions as specified by the rig operator.

Essential Duties
  • Picks up/lays down pipe and latches tubing in elevators
  • Rigging up & down, including handling guidewire hydraulic jacks, pads/boards, and emergency gear
  • Handle tubing, rods, casing and associated equipment such as rod strippers, polish rods, etc. Operate rod wrenches, tongs, elevators, and associated equipment
  • Assists in lifting, removing, installing and operating well head pump, jacks and performs other tasks as designated by the rig operator
  • Operates the mud pump
  • Manages tools on the workover rig floor and assists in daily maintenance
  • Attends and participates in safety meetings
Requirements
  • Education: Must have a high school diploma, equivalency or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Must have one - two (1-2) years of experience within oil and gas workover rigs, drilling rigs, production facilities, pipeline labor or equivalent experience.

    • Must be able to lift 70 lbs and perform physically demanding work
    • Must be able to communicate using oral and basic written communication
    • Basic ability to read and understand maintenance/operations manuals
    • Strong mechanical skills
    • Strong planning, organizational, delegation, and time management skills to set priorities and meet assigned deadlines
    • Strong problem‑solving skills to develop realistic solutions and recommend actions preventing problems
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Lift 50–70 lbs with or without assistance
  • Able to quickly move hands, lay together with arm, grab, manipulate, or assemble objects
  • Coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down
  • Perform physical activities requiring arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling of materials
  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate various types of machinery and handheld equipment
  • Walk moderate distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces
  • Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl
  • Climb and balance on stairs, metal/wooden beams, ladders, or other structures/elevated areas
Working Conditions
  • Work primarily at job site performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site; may also include dust, fumes, chemicals, harsh/hazardous solvents or disinfectants
  • Electrical components, power lines, or other electrical hazards
  • Rebar, blades, or other sharp objects/tools
  • High elevations, trenches, or crawl spaces
  • Possible travel during the work day between jobsites; occasional overnight travel unlikely
  • Work irregular hours to include nights and weekends
