Job details for the Part-time Guard position at the Marine Science Institute, Port Aransas, TX.
General NotesThe purpose of this position is to monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. To control the access of personnel, report security violations, fire, and other safety hazards at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.
Responsibilities- Conduct vehicle and foot patrols, screen visitors
- Control access to restricted areas
- Open and secure doors, gates, and buildings
- Monitor closed‑circuit television (CCTV) equipment intermittently
- Operate vehicle and handheld radios
- Provide professional customer service to employees and visitors
- Respond to emergencies independently or in a team as directed
- Complete official and unofficial reports
- Manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic through checkpoints, parking areas, and visitor use facilities
- Assist with VIP/dignitary visits and special events
- Perform guard tour patrols within scope of SOPs
- Perform building assessment checkpoint patrols
- Provide emergency response reporting
- Follow HOP policies and procedures
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of experience in a similar field
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications- Some College hours towards a Criminal Justice degree
- Degree in Criminal Justice
- 4 years of experience
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

$16.50 an hour
