Director of Operations - Travel Center (C Store)
Director of Operations - Travel Center (C Store) The Director of Operations oversees daily store operations across multiple convenience store locations. This role is responsible for retail execution, inventory and vendor management, food service compliance, staffing and training, operational efficiency, and adherence to company standards. The Director of Operations uses experience, data, and sound judgment to plan, lead, and optimize store performance.
Education
- Retail Management, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5-8 years of supervisory experience in a retail, grocery, or C store environment
- Strong understanding of convenience store operations, including fuel, food service, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with POS systems, back office inventory software, and vendor ordering platforms. PDI experience preferred.
- Skilled in scheduling, labor management, and coordinating daily store workflow
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with retail management systems preferred
- Knowledge of basic retail financials (P&L, shrink, margins, waste control)
- Lead, coach, and develop store managers, shift leads, and frontline associates
- Create staffing plans, oversee scheduling, and ensure labor is aligned with business needs
- Identify training needs and support employee development and performance improvement
- Oversee daily store operations to ensure consistency, cleanliness, and compliance
- Implement and enforce safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures (including hot/cold hold temps, grab and go standards, etc.)
- Ensure fuel operations meet regulatory and environmental requirements
- Maintain store equipment, coordinate repairs, and ensure proper functionality
- Manage inventory levels, ordering, receiving, and stock rotation to reduce shrink and out of stocks
- Oversee vendor relationships, deliveries, and invoice accuracy
- Monitor store consumables and supplies to ensure operational readiness
- Uphold brand standards for merchandising, store appearance, and customer service
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (tobacco, alcohol, food service, fuel, lottery, etc.)
- Conduct regular audits for safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence
- Develop weekly and monthly operational plans aligned with sales goals
- Track KPIs including sales performance, labor efficiency, waste, shrink, and customer satisfaction
- Analyze trends and recommend improvements to processes, policies, and store layout
- Support new product rollouts, promotions, and seasonal merchandising
- Oversee shipping, receiving, and distribution of store supplies
- Coordinate with maintenance teams and external vendors for equipment service
- Support store openings, remodels, and special projects as needed
Pay
$90,000 - $150,000 annually, based on experience Benefits
