Maintain product levels and quality control in the grocery department, ensuring products are displayed according to company standards and regulatory food‑safety practices. Promote customer service and sales building practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain full stock conditions on grocery display racks and shelves.
- Operate pallet jack to unload product from warehouse trucks and reload trucks with return items (effective 18+).
- Ensure dated product is stocked, rotated, or disposed of properly if unsold.
- Inspect product for quality and adhere to food‑safety standards.
- Collect empty cardboard boxes and other trash, placing them in the bailer (effective 18+).
- Assist partners and customers with price‑check questions and product location.
- Promote product sales through suggestive selling initiatives.
- Provide a friendly, customer‑service‑oriented attitude, greeting customers, answering questions and responding to complaints.
- Maintain a clean, safe and sanitary environment by following safety procedures and company policies.
- Practice precautionary safety measures when using equipment and tools.
Skills and Abilities
- Operate manual or electric pallet jack (effective 18+).
- Operate and maintain department equipment safely.
- Handle products gently to avoid damage.
- Work safely with sharp objects such as knives and box cutters.
- Multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Collaborate with team members and promote teamwork.
- Learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
- Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Identify and mitigate potential hazards, placing warning signs when necessary.
- Report hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
- Minimum age 16 years.
- Minimum age 18 years to operate equipment.
- Partners 21+ may drive for company business per BGC Business Driver Policy.
- Position typically involves on‑the‑job training.
- Use close vision, distance vision, depth perception and focus continuously.
- Stand or walk continuously.
- Use hands for reaching, touching or handling continuously.
- Push, pull, maneuver or lift up to 40 lbs. continuously.
- Bend, kneel or squat continuously.
- Talk and hear frequently.
- Push, pull, maneuver or lift up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Climb, balance, stoop or crawl occasionally.
- Be exposed to outside temperatures and weather occasionally.
- Attendance at work required.
- Perform work in a retail store.
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold (non‑weather).
- Occasionally exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents.
- Noise level: quiet to moderate.
