Purpose

Purpose: The QC Lab Assistant Manager supports the Lab Manager to oversee all QC Laboratory operations and personnel, ensuring that all procedures are followed, and valid results are reported.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities
  • Receive and route all samples submitted to the QC Lab. Establish priorities for those samples and ensure the retains are stored correctly.
  • Review and appraise all analyses for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assess results for possible blending/formula problems which require resampling and/or correction.
  • Request clarification on specifications when necessary.
  • Report analyses to Lab Manager for approval if any result is off spec and coordinate a waiver if required.
  • Communicate with appropriate personnel in the plant to facilitate production.
  • Comply with and delegate any routine and special requests – retrieving retains, copies of QC analyses, non-routine tests, etc.
  • Lead training of all new laboratory personnel and monitor their performance.
  • Maintain a good attitude and work ethic as an example for other personnel.
  • Perform formula verification when necessary.
  • Approve raw material and finished product results in SAP.
  • Utilize SAP and Formulator for verification of work orders.
  • Install and maintain new instruments, write lab methods, and help train all QC lab personnel.
  • Coordinate all required maintenance or calibration of all laboratory equipment and verify laboratory instrumentation to ensure data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation when issues arise.
  • Maintain all files on raw materials, finished products, packaged products, standardizations, daily test logs, and the lab quality data systems (LIMS, SAP, etc.).
  • Oversee ordering and stocking of supplies including the generation and approval of purchase orders in SAP.
  • Oversee the flush tote process to minimize waste.
  • Identify new products in the plant and coordinate with R&D for specifications.
  • Participate in ISO, customer, and safety audits.
  • Maintain a clean, organized lab by delegating necessary tasks.
  • Prepare necessary reports for monthly and quarterly metrics meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experiences
  • Bachelor s degree from four-year College or University (Chemistry preferred).
  • Experience in a quality control laboratory (3 year minimum preferred).
Competencies
  • Good working knowledge of general Chemistry with Petroleum Chemistry-specific knowledge and experience.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • High level of analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong reconciliation, problem solving, and judgment skills
  • Must have strong time management and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy
