Job Summary

NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. The provider is credentialed and privileged, billing as an independent provider recognized by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider works within an intensivist and critical care setting, managing patients through patient rounding, procedures, hospital admissions, and discharges.

Position Highlights

Schedule:

7 on/14 off – 7:00 pm start. 7:00 am no-call procedures include intubation, CVL, chest tubes, thoracentesis, and arterial line placement.

Essential Functions Of

The Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribes, recommends, and/or employs medical drug therapies or other related therapeutic treatments and procedures in accordance with approved protocols, ensuring efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Evaluates patient response and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of health conditions, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation-level services for conditions related to the provider's specialty and training.
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to the scope of practice as delegated by the supervising physician.
  • Assists with admissions and discharges, and provides on-call support.

  • Knowledge of medical injuries, diseases, treatments, drug properties, interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills, with complex problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in computer and software applications.
  • Ability to develop and implement comprehensive, outcomes-based treatment plans.
  • Skill in counseling patients on medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions and behavior modification.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a RN-compact state and Texas APRN licensure.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas.
  • Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus (e.g., ACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, NNP‑BC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire.

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNP‑BC), Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNPC‑AG), or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (NNP‑BC).
