The open position is for a Fabricator for custom products on First Responder vehicles. The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of fabrication experience and use their skills to design, build, and finish high-quality projects used on police, fire, and EMS vehicles.
Farr West Specialty Vehicles provides fabrication and metalworking equipment, such as welders, brakes, shears, and presses, and is prepared to expand equipment as needed based on project load or requirement. Applicants must supply their own hand tools and tool storage.
Responsibilities- Create design ideas and drawings of projects based on customer needs.
- Produce high-quality MIG/TIG/Stick welds with Aluminum, Steel, and Stainless.
- Fabricate small brackets and mounts for various vehicles.
- Powder coat or paint finished products.
- Install finished products into vehicles.
- Accurately estimate and order material for the project and stock.
- Bumper, truck accessory, and K‑9 kennel repairs and installation.
- Maintain strong time management skills.
- 2 years of fabrication experience is required.
- Attention to detail.
- Advanced knowledge of welding and cutting tools.
- Ability to safely use and maintain large metalworking equipment and cutting tools.
- Knowledge of 12‑volt systems and general automotive is a plus.
- Ability to read tape measure quickly and accurately, and basic fabrication geometry knowledge.
- Personal hand tools and tool storage are required.
- 3+ years of experience in design and fabrication preferred.
- Knowledge of a variety of metal materials.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Well‑groomed appearance.
- Ability to stand for long periods, walk, sit, bend, push/pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, or crawl frequently.
- Can lift at least 50 pounds.
- Can adapt and change direction on a project when additional accessories might be added.
- Understanding of digital fabrication methods such as 3D modeling, CNC, and laser cutting is helpful but not required.
