Primary Purpose

Provide accurate oral and written translation and interpretation services to support Special Education and Emergent Bilingual Programs
, ensuring meaningful access to educational services for students and families with limited English proficiency. Support compliance with special programs, including assistance with language proficiency testing and documentation
.

Qualifications Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Language assessment training preferred
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish using standard conventions
  • Ability to interpret and translate accurately and objectively in educational and legal contexts
  • Knowledge of Special Education processes, including IEP/ARD meetings and parent rights preferred
  • Knowledge of emergent bilingual program requirements and language proficiency assessments (PreLAS/LAS Links) preferred
  • Ability to adapt language based on the age, proficiency level, and cultural background of students and families
  • Ability to use student information systems, assessment platforms, and standard office software
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment
Experience
  • 1 year of professional translation and/or interpretation experience preferred
  • Experience in a school or educational setting preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties Translation and Interpretation Services
  • Translate written documents, forms, reports, correspondence, and instructional materials between English and Spanish, ensuring accuracy and compliance with district and legal requirements
  • Provide oral interpretation for meetings, including IEP/ARD meetings, ESL placement meetings, parent conferences, enrollment meetings, disciplinary meetings, and hearings
  • Interpret during phone calls, virtual meetings, in-person conferences, and emergency situations as needed
  • Maintain neutrality and accuracy when interpreting sensitive or confidential information
Special Education Support
  • Provide interpretation and translation services to ensure meaningful parent participation in Special Education processes
  • Support communication related to evaluations, eligibility determinations, IEP development, progress reports, and procedural safeguards
  • Assist Special Education staff with translated documentation required for compliance and audit purposes
  • Assist with Emergent Bilingual enrollment, placement, and parent communication
  • Support administration of language proficiency assessments (e.g., language proficiency testing) as trained and assigned
  • Assist with scoring, documentation, and secure handling of language assessment materials
  • Support compliance with state and federal emergent bilingual program requirements, including documentation and reporting
Records and Compliance
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and translated documents in accordance with district procedures
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and IDEA
  • Comply with all federal laws, state regulations, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies
General Duties
  • Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community cultural groups when appropriate
  • Assist with student enrollment and withdrawal processes as needed
  • Follow district safety procedures and emergency protocols
