Description

The Japanese/English Interpreter/Translator will provide consecutive/simultaneous interpretation for internal and external meetings, conferences, individual meetings, tele‑conferences, ceremonies/events, business trips, customer visits, vendor visits, supplier visits, and interactions with governmental authorities, industry associations, parent company and Daikin affiliates.

Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive consecutive/simultaneous interpretation that maximizes communication effectiveness.
  • Perform written translation of documents in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF, including e‑mail communications.
  • Render messages from one language to another accurately, preserving content, context, and style.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in presentation and communication style.
  • Assist with creating and editing presentations and coordinating meetings.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts related to meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
  • Operate with a high level of integrity and proper handling and protection of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Know industry‑specific terminology, glossaries, and training materials.
  • Know relevant vocabulary and basic knowledge of HVAC industry, equipment, and technologies.
  • Perform additional activities/projects as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Language proficiency in English and Japanese, both verbal and written.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy of information.
  • Effective organizational and time‑management skills, including priority setting and urgent task handling.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF).
  • Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills to interact daily with internal and external employees, senior leaders, and executive staff.
  • Ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work well with others in a positive environment and understand the power of teamwork.
  • Display passion for customer satisfaction and a readiness to fuel service excellence.
  • Consistently meet goals on time.
  • Knowledge of audio and visual equipment is a plus, or ability to learn quickly.
  • Adaptability with a problem‑solving approach to meet customer requirements.
  • Flexibility to changes in business needs, schedules, and environments.
  • Capacity to lead meetings with utmost respect for the team.
Experience
  • 2+ consecutive years as a full‑time simultaneous interpreter of Japanese and English, or 3+ years as a freelance simultaneous interpreter of Japanese and English.
Education/Certification
  • BS in Interpretation preferred.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Occasional domestic/international business trips; luncheon/dinner attendance may be requested.
  • Interpretation in manufacturing facilities is required.
