Computer Technician – New Diana Intermediate School

The Computer Technician will perform on-site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment and networks throughout the district. Responsibilities include responding to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware, providing a point of contact for all district staff, administering and operating the district’s central administrative computer networks, and developing, maintaining, and monitoring all district LAN and WAN.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    2‑year technical degree or A+ Certification
  • Knowledge of computer workstation setup
  • Ability to diagnose, install, maintain, and repair computers and peripheral devices
  • Broad knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
  • Knowledge of various operating systems (Windows, Macintosh)
  • Knowledge of software used to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word processing
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation
  • Knowledge of network hardware and software applications, including network servers and printers
  • Ability to work with multiple network operating systems and protocols
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Install network cabling and peripherals throughout the district
  • Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed
  • Install and configure software as needed
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment
  • Receive phone calls and assist end‑users to resolve problems and utilize software
  • Work cooperatively with end‑users to detect and resolve hardware problems
  • Communicate with software and hardware vendors to resolve end‑user problems
  • Evaluate and recommend technology‑related repairs and costs
  • Arrange for contract repairs where work cannot be performed by district staff
  • Oversee software materials and licenses, performing routine inventories and filing
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy
  • Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule
  • Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures; follow procedures for lifting, climbing, and carrying
  • Develop and implement a district‑wide security system for all systems; maintain network, Internet, and e‑mail accounts
  • Design and implement backup procedures to ensure regular backups of all networks and workstations
  • Oversee district backups and restore district data as needed
  • Assist with development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan
  • Process technology‑related work orders and recognize district priority to work orders
  • Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support
  • Maintain network design and configuration documentation
  • Provide assistance to end users to identify and correct equipment and software related problems
  • Respond to after‑hours emergencies as needed
  • Identify and recommend the acquisition of software and hardware to meet the district’s automation and networking needs
Other Information
  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Equipment used: hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; personal computers, phone, two‑way radio, printer, fax machine, and other computer peripherals
  • Working conditions:

    climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment; frequent district‑wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; may required to be on‑call after hours; prolonged use of computer and telephone; repetitive hand motions
