Position Summary

Under the supervision of nursing staff members assist in providing nursing residents care, prepares records, and maintains a clean environment.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    High Schools Graduate or equivalent, preferred.
  • Personal Job Related

    Skills:

    Ability to read and write; effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions.

    Knows and understand acceptable medical abbreviations.
  • Licensure, Registry or Certification:

    BLS certification required; preferred but not required, certification as a Nurse Aide and listed on the Texas Certified Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Experience:
  • Prior

    Work Experience:

    One year experience in a medical setting preferred.

    • Physical and Mental Requirements:

      Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking.

      Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

      Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
    Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills
  • Assures that each resident receives quality care.
      • Performs personal care according to requirements of the resident including, bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as condition of resident warrants and as directed, feeding resident and collecting specimens.
      • Keeps room neat and tidy at all times, residents dry and free of secretions, and answers call lights in a prompt manner.
      • Performs procedures designed to prevent physical deterioration of the resident including positioning resident and giving skin care as directed, getting resident out of bed or ambulating as directed, working gently and handling residents with special conditions in the specified manner, and performing catheter care as directed.
      • Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
      • Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients’ status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
  • Provides respect due to each resident, family and co-workers.
      • Avoids unnecessary exposure during care.
      • Speaks politely to and considers preferences of residents.
      • Includes residents in decision making.
      • Introduces self and state why they are there.
      • Refrains from engaging in casual conversations with co-workers in open areas in view of residents and visitors.
  • Participates in the resident care management.
      • Reports important facts or observations to LVN and/or supervisor.
      • Attends change of shift report and makes notes of facts that are important to nursing care.
      • Assists in the transportation of patients.
  • Able to operate the electronic medical record system.
      • Enters any needed resident data into the EMR system in an accurate manner.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures.
      • Prints and gathers patient information as requested by nursing daily and upon transfer.
      • Works with dietary to ensure residents’ appropriate diet is served.
    General
  • Maintain HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by the department and Mitchell County Hospital District.
  • Provides service direct to residents while maintaining a positive resident relations atmosphere.
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Follows aseptic procedures and precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.

  • Work Schedule

    Rotating Schedule

    Day Shift 7:00am to 7:00pm

    Night Shift 7:00pm-7:00am
