International Health and Medical Services is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to ensure the efficient operation of healthcare services. In this role, you will manage administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining organized patient records, and facilitating effective communication among healthcare staff. Additionally, you will perform essential clinical duties, including taking patient histories, measuring vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with medical procedures, and conducting basic lab tests.
This position is crucial for facilitating access to quality medical care and supporting the overall healthcare delivery process within the facility.
- Provide direct care to patients throughout the lifespan in adherence to the defined Scope of Practice.
- Complete all required competency assessments successfully and updates annually and attends all required training and completes successfully.
- Perform functions in accordance with current accepted practice and certification.
- Provide patient care under the supervision of licensed health care staff to include the registered nurse (RN), nurse practitioners (NP), physician assistant (PA), physician, dentist, psychiatrist, pharmacist, or behavioral health provider (BHP).
- Respond to health emergencies as directed by licensed health care staff.
- Ask patient health questions as directed by licensed health care staff.
- Complete required health documentation in the electronic health record.
- Prepare patient and examination room for health evaluation by licensed health care staff.
- Perform tasks for outpatient health care to include:
- Vital signs
- Fingerstick glucose checks
- Urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, urine drug screening, and other CLIA-waived tests performed at the facility.
- Rapid flu and strep testing.
- Phlebotomy
- Peak flow test
- Infant length/weight/head circumference
- Electrocardiogram
- Sterile set up and clean up for minor outpatient surgical procedures.
- Sterilization, packaging, and/or disposal of medical instruments.
- Management of medical waste as per requirements.
- Administration of basic first aid.
- Dressing changes as ordered by licensed health staff.
- Administration of immunizations
- Serving as chaperone during patient examinations.
- Serving as scribe for patient health care encounters.
- Administration of medications via topical, oral, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, and nasally as ordered by licensed health staff.
- Other assigned duties within scope of practice
- Perform required quality assurance testing and manages inventory as required:
- Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment
- Assist administrative leadership in required supply ordering processes
- Perform required quality testing on CLIA waived equipment and maintain appropriate testing logs
- Properly use equipment, materials and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures.
- Work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
- Utilize telephone, video and in-person interpreter services to complete assigned duties if not fluent in a language understandable by patients being provided medical care.
- Adapt to sudden changes in schedules and flexibility in work requirements.
- Communicate proficiently in English (verbal and written) in order to develop positive rapport with patients, co-workers and other stakeholders.
