Serve as the staff pharmacist for the Mexia State Supported Living Center, providing technical, clinical, and consultative pharmacy services to residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role involves dispensing, medication review, inventory management, and supervising pharmacy technicians in the absence of the Pharmacy Director.
Responsibilities- Attend work on a regular schedule and perform duties assigned.
- Interpret provider orders and screen for interactions, polypharmacy, and allergies (DUR).
- Dispense correct medications to residents, applying clinical skills to ensure safety.
- Assist the Pharmacy Director in supervising drug dispensing, pre‑packaging, ordering, receiving, and proper storage of drugs and supplies.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians when the Pharmacy Director is absent.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to answer drug‑information questions and perform interventions as needed.
- Participate in weekly routines: checking carts, updating cart fill, refilling narcotic orders, and processing furlough medications.
- Maintain inventory control and proper drug supply management.
- Utilize computer systems to complete tasks efficiently.
- Participate in disaster recovery or COOP activations as required.
- Current Texas pharmacist license (unrestricted and actively displayed). rschung]
- Professional knowledge of pharmacy principles, federal and state laws, and psychiatric pharmacotherapy.
- Proficiency with pharmacy computer software and medical laboratory report interpretation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Office Suite, email, PC usage. - Ability to prepare detailed records, type accurately, and review medication orders for safety.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff and residents.
- Experience in pharmaceutical work.
- Graduation from an accredited pharmacy school.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, prescription, and LEIE). Random drug testing applies. Flexibility for overtime and weekends may be required. All applicants must be at least 18 years old.
