The City of Wylie is seeking a Code Compliance Officer to add to our Code Enforcement team. This is an addition to the current Code Compliance Officers that we currently have. The selected applicant will be responsible for the enforcement of multiple provisions of the City of Wylie code of ordinances. The work involves a coordinated approach in the community, with other department representatives and the departmental supervisor.

The title of Code Compliance Officer is reserved for those individuals who meet the established state criteria as established by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Supervision is provided by the Customer Service Manager.

  • Investigates assigned complaints from citizens and staff for compliance with all federal, state and local requirements.
  • Enforcement responsibilities under the City's municipal code to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Conducts field investigations of reported complaints of municipal code, ordinance, and resolution violations, advising individuals of violations and seeking abatement or remedies through voluntary compliance, administrative hearings or judicial action.
  • Identifies, inspects, and gathers evidence through legal survey of possible abandoned, nuisance or dangerous buildings for the abatement procedures adopted by the City of Wylie's ordinance.
  • Provides legal testimony in any aspect of assigned enforcement duties, if required.
  • Conducts field inspections to uncover violations, inform owners or occupants of the adopted code provisions and encourage voluntary compliance.
  • Issues appropriate warnings, violation notices and possible citations.
  • Enforces municipal codes, ordinances, and resolutions with the proper respect extended to the general public and City staff in the office and in the field.
  • Makes presentations and/or provides testimony to boards and commissions and/or courts of law; reviews existing ordinances and proposes amendments; performs related inspections.
  • Maintains case records, program statistics and related materials.
  • Maintains an attitude of cooperation with co-workers, in both the department and other departments of the City.
  • Researches tax and water records to find information on property owners/violators.
  • Responds to complaints of code violations including but not limited to sewage, trash, illegal dumping, junk vehicles, swimming pools and high grass by inspecting various properties and establishments. Meets directly with property/business owners regarding complaints.
  • Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
  • Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
  • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver License. Must have Texas Driver License within 60 days of hire. State Certified Code Enforcement Certificate will be required after hire. Minimum of four years of experience or combination of experience in general building construction assessments and/or municipal code enforcement utilizing the knowledge of existing administrative rules, regulations and direct public contact. Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.
