Join the Texas Juvenile Justice Department as a TJJD Inspector General - Sergeant (MCL). The OIG is the independent law‑enforcement agency that investigates criminal allegations within the Texas juvenile justice system and protects the safety of juveniles, employees, and facilities.
General DescriptionThe OIG oversees criminal investigations, performs security duties, and manages the Incident Reporting Center. The role requires serving as a commissioned peace officer, conducting investigations, using canine partners where appropriate, and traveling statewide.
Responsibilities- Oversee and conduct criminal and administrative investigations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, including interviewing witnesses and preparing detailed reports.
- Obtain and execute warrants; assist other law‑enforcement agencies; conduct undercover investigations and perform arrests and facility security duties.
- Document investigative activity and maintain records in compliance with laws and retention policies.
- Conduct routine, random, and requested searches and inspections of facility premises, persons, and vehicles.
- Coordinate with staff, share information on investigative activities, identify operational concerns and recommend improvements.
- Collect and analyze reports on serious injury, escape, youth‑on‑youth assaults, and suicide attempts; issue safety and compliance reports.
- May serve as a canine partner to detect contraband and may be assigned as a computer forensic investigator.
- Provide training to others and conduct related duties as assigned.
- Attend regular schedules, comply with agency attendance and leave policies, and perform extensive statewide travel.
